Tres Meses!!

The little Chunk a Munk is three months old...and wearing six month clothing...he is my son. Here's a little comparison for the entertainment of you my dear readers.

Canyon(^) Bailee (v)

Ok so he's not as HUGE as I was but he's getting there...poor kid
Canyon at 3 months is:
*Holding his head steady
*kickin up a storm
*Laughing, smiling and cooing
*Sucking on not just the paci and the thumb but the WHOLE fist
*Trying the roll over. He's oh so close. We tend to cheer him on and then he stops because he's not sure why we're making all the ruckus.
*Reaching for toys if they're hanging above him. Sometimes he focuses so hard.
*Sleeping through the night (I know this is HUGE but I didn't want to give away my excitement by listing it first)
*Looking at books
*Being a daddy's boy
*Enjoying the summer!

baby blubber

Pregnancy sure does a number on the figure. The first few weeks after delivery felt great because I was shedding the pounds but I'm now at a stand still.

I have but ten more pounds till I reach my pre-pregnancy weight and I can't seem to beat 'em away for good. I know I'm not huge, but I'm uncomfortable.

I was flitting through blogs when I found a cool idea. A bunch of ladies were team members of the blog and they all posted recipes and their weekly weigh-ins. How's that for and accountability & motivation.

I've made up my mind...I'm going to keep a food journal and track my progress on this very site...you, my readers, are going to help me with that last little bit of motivation I need. If all this is annoying I'm sorry, but I know that to get to where I want to be I need the level of accountability I'll get by making my goal public.

My first 5k is in one week...I can do this!

Sleep? What's that?

Guess who slept through the night last night?

Yes, Zach did too...but the surprise? You got it, my 3 month old slept through the night!

When I woke up I didn't know if I should be worried or excited...I'm still trying to figure out what went right. As of right now all the credit is going to the fact that I have an angel baby.

\

Can I just say...

That I love this man?

and the little guy he's talkin to :) I'm one lucky lucky girl!

My Creative Outlet

Do you ever get antsy? Like your brain and hands are just not doing enough? Well this past week was killing me. I was working every other day and yet I felt like I wasn't accomplishing anything. So...to solve said problem I called up my trusty accomplice, Rachel Hudson, and presented an offer she couldn't resist...a craft. We met at Wal-Mart in search of supplies for a craft we would soon begin. We were a tad stumped when I remembered a fun idea I had found on one of my favorite blogs . She had mod-podged a cute fabric onto a fairly plain pair of flats...so cute!!!

We got to work that night and finished two days later. I decided to embellish mine with some rosettes (tutorial also found here)

I love my newest spring wardrobe addition...although they do have their flaws. I can't wait to make another pair with the one try under my belt.

Did I mention I'm going to be using that wonderful fabric to decorate our spare bathroom?? I'm excited:)

Just for Grandma D

My little man has been kickin kickin kickin. My poor mother has been listening to me talk about it all week and finally she asked if I would record it and post it. Here it is, Mom. For anyone willing to watch..the beginning is a little slow but about half way through he really starts to go! We love our little chubs!

Think he'll follow in our footsteps and play soccer? We sure hope so!!

Derby Update:)

SO I forgot that not everybody knows how a 3D Printer works...to be honest...my knowledge is limited. I'll tell ya a little more.

So what happens is someone designs something on SolidWorks (I think it can be other 3D drawing programs as well) and then when you send the final project to the printer magic happens. Really it takes about 15 hours and it actually makes the design...I like to compare the material to plastic, Zach says it's like a honeycomb compound. When the car was designed, Zach and his classmates left space to insert axles and attach wheels, much like a pine wood derby car.

hope this clarifies the mystic world of machinery!

Speedy Speedy

As most of you know Zach has his associates in drafting technology and is now working tirelessly on his bachelor's. Nevertheless his hard work doesn't come with out some fun and games. A recent assignment included SolidWorks design program, four wheels and a few requirements. A few weeks later a pretty sweet car was printed out of the 3D printer at UVU. This new mini mobile came home with Zach and was painted while watching General Conference. This week was race week. Zach took the car to class on Tuesday and came home a little discouraged. Some other racers had spent a little TOO much time designing their vehicles.

The race was held on Thursday. Canyon and I went out to cheer on daddy's car. To Zach's surprise, his car....WON! It beat out every car...even the Professor's!

Like I said....He's talented!

hefty hefty hefty

I had an interesting encounter with the scale this evening. I made up my mind to see what Canyon now weighs. We went to the upstairs bathroom where I figured I'd weigh the two of us and then set him down to weigh myself. I would then use my many years of math experience to find his current weight while ignoring my own.
3 errors later I got a reading...of 299.8 lbs. hmph... (digital reading mind you)

I set the baby down and tried again....140.8 lbs...(you are welcome to forget that number)

Grabbed baby, resumed position....154 lbs

Yes, at 11 weeks old my chunker is a whoppin' 13.2 lbs!

From Homeless to Homed...

Zach and I have been homed...not really a word, I know, but it felt fitting. Friday started with me begging Zach to go look at an apartment I had found on the one, the only, craigslist.org. We had seen the complex posted many times before but never had much interest in it. Apartment complexes have lost their sweetness for Zach and I so he wasn't really all that interested.

In light of not having anything else to do before my interview he agreed.

We pulled in next to the clubhouse.

Zach: **Gives Bailee a look of disgust***
Bailee: **Looks around trying to find what ever he could be referring to. It couldn't have been the seventies style architecture where the roofing came midway down the side**
It's worth looking at.
Zach: Really? Fine

In the end I was able to drag him by his collar to the leasing office.

I liked it the minute she offered to show us the apartment in a golf cart.

As we drove through the large older complex, we started nearing the border where some newer buildings stood. I winked at Zach...he didn't see it.

To make this long story a tiny bit shorter I'll just say I have gloating rights for a little while.

The apartment is only $40 more than what we had been previously paying and it's quite a bit larger. We will be upgrading to 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Not to mention a patio, storage shed, laundry room and two linen closets!

The move in date is still up in the air...the previous tenants moved out yesterday and the manager will let us know on Monday when they'll have it ready for us. Blessing...I think so.

Did I mention they welcome our furry friend Bruce?

Mumbo Jumbo

-Alpine school district had spring break this week, aka no work for Zach. He's been spending most of his time off doing homework but still...We've been eating dinner at a normal hour and enjoying an earlier curfew.
-Job hunting...a never ending process-Canyon=typical baby....cold for 4 weeks....over it for 1...back with another...woot woot. He's going to have an immune system of a champ by the time he reaches 10th grade!
-Homeless...yes were are officially homeless. Zach's family has been kind enough to let us bum a room off them until we figure out what's next for our little family...oh to be young.
-Summer: our summer plans haven't completely come together but I do know I'm going back to school. I'm all registered for classes and It looks like I'll be done someday:) it's happening...slowly but surely.-I have an interview with the Daily Herald tomorrow. Things are sounding pretty good over there so we'll keep you posted.
-We really enjoyed every last bit of general conference. It was especially wonderful for me as a new mother. I got a little (or a lot) from each talk that really focused me in on being a good mommy to my little man. Bring on trials and tribulations....we're ready to take it on.
So there you go...a little MUMBO JUMBO about what's going on it our quaint but crazy life. oh and a little shout out to my parents. They were kind enough to get us a memory foam mattress topper for our birthdays...it is WONDERFUL! I can't believe how well I sleep...even on the brink of homelessness. Thanks mom and dad!!! We love you!

Quite the suprise

So I've decided to make the announcement.

I went into my post partum check up the beginning of March. On the agenda was placing an IUD. Zach and I were planning on waiting a while before continuing the expansion of the Hawkins family. Half way through the exam the nurse brought in what I assumed was just paperwork for the IUD but turned out to be the results from the urine sample. We are going to be welcoming Hawkins baby #2 sometime in November or December of this year...we'll find out a more accurate due date later this month.

Zach and I are both excited but nervous as well. Two children in the same calendar year is going to be hard work and let's be honest...neither of us are done with school yet. I guess the Lord has something planned! I'm hoping for a little girl so we can be done with the child bearing, seeing as my pregnancies are kind of dangerous. I'm sure Zach and Canyon would appreciate a little brother. Fortunately we already have names picked out and in about 11 weeks we'll find out what we're having. Looks like we'll need a bigger car here soon! And by the way April fools! Honestly, we got the IUD and won't be having another for a while. Hope we gave you a good scare!:)
