PS I'm struggling with how he holds pencils, crayons, etc. Any tips on helping him do it correctly? Thanks!

Use a rubber band. Put it around a pencil, twist it once and slide his hand through the rest of the rubber band. Because the rubber band is tight, it will hold the pencil in place.
What a character! Too cute!
It seems like my kids just corrected themselves on how they held pencils, etc. as they got a little older.
